About The Event
Celestial Bodies: Between Heaven and Earth, a multimedia group exhibition is a response to the modern billionaire Space Race, which is primarily taking place in what is currently the “American Southwest”. The exhibition centers different historic and cultural connections to the cosmos, while drawing essential parallels between the space race and the effects of conquest and colonialism.
The work in the show underscores cultural connections to outer space while expanding ideas around our physical forms as celestial bodies. The exhibition investigates the concept of “the body” on four scales: the singular body, a communal body, bodies of land, and the cosmic body.
Celestial Bodies: Between Heaven and Earth will open March 4 at the CAV Gallery in Las Cruces, New Mexico and show for a month, closing April 1.
The show will feature work from Granville Carroll, with the full lineup to be announced soon, and collaborative curation by Granville Carroll, Sam Fresquez and Marcus Xavier Chormicle
